Orientation & Launch
To kickstart the challenge, students will be invited on the Sunday before the challenge week for a full day orientation and launching of the one-week design thinking course. The day will include social and networking activities to build community and team spirit. Students will engage in various sessions to get introduced to faculty, the design thinking process, and the challenge. During the orientation and launch day, students will have a tour of the facilities that they will be able to use 24 hours a day during the week such as the studio, conference rooms, computer labs, and workshops. Students will learn about the hardware and software that is available to help them in the different stages of their project. The day will conclude with a dinner at a local restaurant with all stakeholders involved; faculty, teaching assistants, lab and workshop attendants, funding parties, and program directors.

- develop an understanding and appreciate the value of human-centered design thinking process

Students check-in and get their name badges for the first day and testing day.
Students will get an orientation package that includes branded items such as: backpack, water bottle, tumbler, portfolio, notepads, pens, decal for their personal devices, Design Thinking Bootcamp Bootleg booklet, etc. |

Meet the Faculty
|
Students will meet the faculty from diverse departments who will be leading and co-facilitating the different stages of the design thinking process.
Faculty will have a 25-minute presentation to introduce themselves and provide an overview of the stage that they will be leading. |

Lunch Break
|
Students and faculty will have lunch in the university cafeteria. Having a meal together will help build community and a sense of belonging to the team.

Site visit
|
Students will visit the site that will be repurposed and which they will be pitching innovative design ideas to create the new study space.
On site, students will meet with contractors, architects and engage with them to ask about the potential and possibilities that they can implement. |

Setting Expectations
|
Students will be led through a series of activities to prompt them to come up with rules concerning the use of facilities, interacting and collaborating with each other, and sharing materials.
Students will hold themselves and each other accountable to live, comply, and respect these rules in order to create a safe and conducive environment for creativity and innovation to flourish. |

Students will get introduced to technology hardware and software that is available to them. Students will be given instruction manuals as well as skill set sheets to walk them through the steps of successfully installing and using the different technology tools.

Team Building Activity
|
Students will engage in team building activities to instill values of cooperation, trust, and respect. They will work on deciding on a team name.

|
Students, faculty, and other stakeholders will have dinner at a local restaurant and get ready to start the one week challenge.
